I’m currently sold out of microphones. However, I’m completing the fixture and jig-making necessary to manufacture my improved design for an ultra-light frame drum microphone. I will begin production of these “Mark II” microphones in the coming days as my parts orders arrive.

The difference between these and the original microphones is an improved shockmounting system that more effectively floats the microphone, isolating it from shocks and vibrations while keeping it rigidly mounted to the frame of your instrument.

Additionally, the new shockmount is made of thin aircraft aluminum and is a few grams lighter than the copper lug used on my original microphone design.

The ‘feel’ of a pandeiro with the new microphone attached has not changed and the balance is the same, with the shockmount’s ‘center of gravity’ still rigidly anchored inside the shell by my original clamping mechanism.

These new microphones will cost US$325.

HOWEVER

If you would like to get the MkII microphone for the price of the original mic but don’t mind waiting, I will honor the old price through March 15th. So, if you can wait a month, you can get the new microphone for US$300.

Shipping is underway and I’ve sent a bunch of mics out this week. I’m now waiting on shipments of two small parts (Windscreens and Battery Snaps) and those should be here in a few days. Once they are, I’ll get all remaining orders out. I am filling them in the order in which payment is received. As always, to get your place on the list, fill out the order form and I’ll respond with payment/shipping details.

I have 10 microphone systems ready to ship. I will be contacting everyone who’s been on the waiting list shortly and these 10 will go to the first 10 from whom I receive payment. Not to worry, there’s another 25 right behind these and 50 behind those… Production is officially under-way and ramping up!

Ok, so this is not directly related to Frame Drum Microphones, but when DJ /Rupture and I play live in Nettle, I use my Frame Drum Mics on Bendir and Pandeiro. For this collaboration, I’ve built 7 devices for Ableton Live using MaxMSP. They’re free and fun, so if you use Ableton and Max, grab ‘em! There will be more, stay tuned.

I’m so very close to shipping. Revised circuit boards and cable connectors are the only things I’m waiting on, both of which I should be receiving this week. I’ll then just need to solder everything together and the new transformer-balanced preamps will be ready to be paired with fitted mics and shipped!

In the meantime, I’ve decided to change/simplify the graphics on the preamp and add a label to the bottom explaining the technical details. The top was just too cluttered with printed information.

An email will be going out to the waiting list as soon as everything is ready. Stay tuned. Soon, soon.

I now have the machining for a batch of 24 microphones (and 10 to spare) complete and ready for final assembly and finishing. Just a few more hurdles to clear and they’ll be ready to ship. Stay tuned.
